Well, here we are, the 18th of December and Christmas is right around the corner. For some of us, it's been a fun time of cardmaking, gift buying, wrapping and all the preparation that goes into the holiday.
But for some of us, there is not quite as much joy. The holidays bring stress, sadness, and an inability to really feel the Christmas spirit. Our lives are not Hallmark channel scripted and there are things that hurt.
I wanted to write a post about how hobbies are good for our mental health and how in the coming new year you have permission to see your craft as self-care. But, Jennifer McQuire, heaven bless her, beat me to the punch. She has a video, which I’ll link to for you, that addresses her mental health challenges and how she addresses them. You might see some of what you experience here as well. Her advice is sound, she speaks candidly about her own depression, loss of mojo, and need for mindfulness.
Instead of avoiding your craft room, see if as the happy place it is. You space! If you just can’t create, do some prep work by cutting card stock, tiding up, or just watching a few YouTube videos. Visit a card or project you made that made you feel really happy and pleased with yourself and make it again.
Anyway, Jennifer’s link is below.
I hope to see you in the New Year. I hope you enjoy the season of our Savior’s birth with a new sense of his love for you. I hope every attempt improves your skill and confidence in yourself and that your crafting area is the happy place you need and want it to be.
Merry Christmas my fellow creators. I heard a quote the other day that goes like this, if there is a design, there is a designer. We all design and create.
I wish you great joy as you follow your art.
